The Nightmare Series Part 5
The Last Story September 15, 2001 by Chris Morin
I thought it would be fun to write about some of my
worst nightmares. But this will be the last time I write about this subject.
A nightmare occurred on September 11, 2001 that rivals all of the bad dreams
I have ever had.
I learned about the attack on America on the internet.
I was on Boston.com when I saw a headline
that said a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. I called my
wife and told her what had happened. After hanging up the phone I refreshed
the screen. The headline then said that two planes had hit the World Trade
Center. Things would only get worse from there.
I couldn't sleep well that night. My mind and my
stomach were all over the place.
After a couple of days of watching the depressing
news on television, I decided to go to the movies. I figured it would get
my mind off of things. I watched as a swashbuckling Musketeer rescued the
girl and saved the day. But I couldn't help but think of the crash. As
good as the stunts were on the screen, they were not nearly as real as
September 11th.
As I slept that night, a thunderstorm made its way
through Massachusetts. Usually I love them but this time it was different.
The first sound of thunder jolted me awake and out of bed. I thought someone
had dropped a bomb on my city. Then a flash of lightening caught my eye
and I shook in terror.
I haven't been able to remember any of my dreams
since the attack. Maybe my nightmares have decided to forfeit, to give
up trying to scare me. Maybe they feel that reality has done a good enough
job on its own. Maybe the nightmares are just waiting to hit me with everything
they have to finish me off.
Whatever the case may be, I'm scared and this time
I can't open my eyes to make the fear go away.
